Crime Solutions News Archive: News Item Posted: Friday, October 31, 2008 Crime Solutions 6th Call We are pleased to announce that the 6th call for funding proposals from Crime Solutions led by the University of Central Lancashire has supported 6 further projects. Crime Solutions is a Centre for Knowledge Exchange project providing an active network of expertise for those involved in the detection, reduction and prevention of crime against the community and business and as such has supported the development of a new Business Crime Reduction Centre at the University of Central Lancashire. This new centre aims to formulate a programme of activities to:- *Develop accredited courses for business crime advisors *Increase the knowledge and understanding of crime prevention techniques, including designing out crime *Develop a bank of 'experts' in specialist areas *Promote appropriate, realistic and cost effective security methods for businesses and the community to help improve the safety and security of the region's businesses and industrial estates. Stephen French was the plenary speaker and he spoke with great conviction of his motives towards empowerment and education for change of youth culture. Amongst his many businesses is a film and media crew who recorded the event, so keep a lookout for any of his future appearances on TV. The event had four crime threads plus a workshop for poeple interested in trying out the EvoFIT facial recognition software developed by Charlie Frowd of UCLan. Thankyou to all those who spoke at and attended this event for helping us to make it such a great success. News Item Posted: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 CRIME MATTERS Our 4th annual conference is to be held on Wednesday 25th June at Farington Lodge, Leyland, and is to be partnered by two other projects at UCLan. PIKE (Partnerships, Innovation, Knowledge Enterprises)delivers support to small/medium businesses to reduce the impact of crime on their business and development. Urban Regeneration, is a partnership between 4 northern universities working with local communities to deliver a wide range of regeneration activities. The Crime Matters Conference will host an EvoFIT workshop for those interested in learning more about this revolutionary software; hailed as the 3rd generation facial composite device. News Item Posted: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Crime Solutions Fourth Annual Conference The next crime solutions conference date has now been set for Wednesday 25th June. This will begin with an optional evening dinner on the Tuesday followed by a one day event at Farrington Lodge Hotel, Leyland. Conference theme to be confirmed. We are also hosting an ESRC Festival of Social Science event on March 12th at the Harris Museum in Preston City Centre. This is a public event hosting many major players within crime research. Learn about crime scene investigation; how maggots assist in dating time of death; how bones can direct detectives to the murder weapon; how to extract DNA / What does it look like; and the latest Evo-FIT facial composite technology. Let's hope that 2008 rings in some successful crime-reducing changes for all of us! The Crime Solutions Networking event, held last October was well received and considered all round to be a success. Numerous organisations met and discussed plans for project collaborations and ideas. In-fact, the hall was filled to maximum capacity! So thanx to everyone who came for your enthusiasm and interest.
